Report by Gerdi Gutperle about her stay in India at the Agasthiyar Muni Child Care Centre in May 2009

A very special joy filled my heart when I again embarked on a journey to southern India in May of this year. I wanted to see firsthand what had been accomplished at the Agasthiyar Muni Child Care Centre in the months since my previous visit in January 2009. Justin Guest’s report about his experiences reflects what we had encountered together at that time.

Immediately upon arrival, I immersed myself in daily life at the clinic. The staff there is working at full capacity: between 100 and 130 children, escorted by their parents, are currently seen at the clinic each day for treatment and therapy, either as inpatients or as recipients of ambulatory outpatient care. Eighteen emergency cases were handled on a single day and a series of children underwent surgical operations, after which they remained at the clinic as inpatients for several days of postoperative care.

Surgical operations are always conducted in accord with conventional medical procedures. In all other cases, however, the children are helped along toward good health with Siddha medicine, homeopathy and myoreflex therapy, which was developed by Dr. Kurt Mosetter.

During the days I spent onsite, I was especially eager to help look after the children and their parents. I was also present at many of the treatment sequences.

Each time, I felt the gratitude of the children and their parents, as well as the joy they experienced through the attention, the love and the gifts that I can give on such days.

The people at the Child Care Centre will now also be able to experience contemplative hours in the clinic’s new meditation room, which was beautifully consecrated with a lovely ceremony and prayers offered by myself and the entire staff of the hospital.

We have succeeded in making my vision a lived reality. I’m deeply grateful to the people onsite and to the personal commitment and dedication offered each day by Dr. Kurt Mosetter, his deputy chief medical director Dr. Manuela Kaess, the orthopedist and myoreflex therapist Dr. Eberhard Jörg, the therapist Ms. Brigitte Harrer, the Heilpraktiker (i.e. alternative practitioner) Mr. Justin Guest, his wife Helga, and the dentists Juliane Klohr and Philipp Schumacher, to name only a few of the many caregivers, whose names are representative of all those who contribute their hearts, minds and hands.

After twelve months of intensive and tireless work, we have successfully brought the Child Care Centre to a very good point. I express my profound and heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to this success, and I look forward to collaborating with these helpers as we continue along our path together.

This success was a personal enrichment for me, and it also enabled me, during my stay in India, to grasp the truth of the adage that “the path is the goal.”

I’d therefore like to close my report by quoting Mother Theresa:

“Give the world the best you have, even if it will never be enough.
Give the world your best anyway.
Ultimately, everything becomes an issue between you and God.
After all, it never was an issue between you and the others.”
