Report about Gerdi Gutperle and Her Time at Agasthiyar Muni Child Centre in 2010
“Each of us has a mission to complete: a mission of love. When the moment of death comes and we stand face to face before God, we shall be judged according to love –not according to how much we have done, but according to how much love we have put into our actions.”
Mutter Theresa
Gerdi Gutperle is borne by this love. Her mission and her vision are reflected in her art and in her Gerdi Gutperle Agasthiyar Muni Child Care Centre in South India, which she cofounded with her husband Werner Gutperle.
Anyone who has ever been there is aware of the spiritual power and the personal dedication – carried by the ideals of humanism – that are needed in order to realize a project of this sort, to guarantee its tangible existence and to encourage its continued evolution.
The people in India very much appreciate this generous assistance because it primarily benefits the weakest ones in the region, i.e. the children.
Each visit that Gerdi Gutperle paid to the Gerdi Gutperle Agasthiyar Muni Child Care Hospital in 2009 and 2010 gave a boost to all who came into contact with her. Her whole heart and all her love belong to this project. Her many visits strengthen her connection to the Centre and show everyone involved with it that Gerdi Gutperle takes a great interest in the Centre, to which she feels a strong bond of unconditional devotion. She even celebrated her birthday there last year so that she could spend her few hours of “free time” with the children, their families and the Centre’s staff.
These visits also express her life’s genuine impulse: to be of service to her fellow human beings and to do something worthwhile for others, in this case, for the children. “A person can only give as much as she has found within her.” This is especially true for Gerdi Gutperle, who has obviously found so much within her and who gives everything for her vision and her life’s dream, which has now become reality and is improving the quality of life for so many people.
A vision can only become a reality when it’s enthusiastically shared by all participants and when everyone pulls on the same rope. Only in this way can Gerdi Gutperle’s goal also be achieved in the future and in the dimension she envisions.
The clinic’s entire staff accordingly works with the utmost attention to foster the wellbeing of the children. Everyone has internalized Gerdi Gutperle’s thoughts and made them their own: “All of us are called upon to give whatever we can – with honest hearts, positive thoughts, enthusiasm, and trust in one another.”
The Gerdi Gutperle Agasthiyar Muni Child Care Centre developed successfully during the past year, thanks in part to the donations it received from generous people.
Each day, approximately 180 children are treated at the Centre, either as outpatients or inpatients. The hospital has a capacity of 120 beds and includes the specialties of pediatrics, surgery, orthopedics and dentistry, as well as ear, nose and throat medicine. Qualified specialists have at their disposal three operating rooms furnished with highly technical equipment. Further development and a high standard of quality, which approaches the European standard, guarantee ongoing improvements in the conditions onsite.
The two areas of medical culture – orthodox medicine and complementary medicine – have existed side by side in India for many years, but without the necessary sharing of expertise and information.
Here at the children’s hospital, and in accord with Gerdi Gutperle’s intentions, highly successful collaboration takes place between physicians active in the field of orthodox medicine on the one hand and practitioners of homeopathy, Siddha and Ayurvedic medicine on the other. This cooperation is exemplary, not only in the region, but also throughout the Indian subcontinent.
The use of this synergetic effect to foster the holistic wellbeing of Indian children is especially evident in the interdisciplinary work carried out in the rehabilitation department. Specially trained occupational therapists and physiotherapists treat physical and psychological ailments with myoreflex therapy, which was developed by Dr. Kurt Mosetter. This German physician and his team support Indian doctors and therapists with consulting and ongoing continuing education. The parents of the Indian children likewise learn elements of the therapeutic regime, as well as nutritional and hygienic aspects, to assure the long-lasting effectiveness of the treatment.
As both a visual artist in Germany and as the initiator of her children’s hospital in India, Gerdi Gutperle has recognized the signs of the times: “In an era when the world faces its greatest challenges, consciousness and responsibility in the life of each individual form the basis for a change that creates sustained transformation.”
The Gerdi Gutperle Agasthiyar Muni Child Care Centre too continues to evolve with high standards of quality assurance for the future of the children – because children are our future – and the future begins today!
Every donation counts and brings as an extra measure of attention to a child who needs our help. In this sense, I would like to thank everyone who has contributed and made a donation to my project in India.” Gerdi Gutperle addresses these words to everyone who knows how important it is to care for our “neighbors.” Especially today, when globalism creates so many obstacles and raises so many unanswered questions, it is crucially important to focus our attention on needy children around the world. Please help us – so that a child’s eyes can sparkle again!”
